The design of the D4 is similar to that of the D6 with the exception of the absence of shiny black plastic cladding. Instead a matte finish that doesn't attract dust and other debris separates the D4's upper surfaces. A disc with a raised design that has the word "neato", emblazoned on it, rests atop the round robot. It hides the laser which enables its navigation.
Like all Neato vacuums, the D4 starts its cleaning process by driving around your home to map its plan. Although it appears to be a bit random, there's actually a method to this madness when it drives around walls and corners with a combination of laser sensing and bumping.
The app will display your home's floor plan and highlight all the areas the D4 has visited. The app will also show any issues the robot encountered such as a weak battery or docking. If you want to restrict its access to certain areas, you can use the application to draw virtual No-Go lines around objects and furniture that the D4 should stay clear of.
The D4 Connected, like all modern robotic vacuums, is compatible with voice assistants. It can be operated using simple commands. It supports Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Watch integrations and Neato's voice-control abilities. You can also create an individual cleaning schedule and manage the robot's features using the app.
The D4 also lets you set the daily or weekly cleaning schedule, toggle between Eco and Turbo mode, and switch on gentle navigation. It will even return to its base at the conclusion to recharge, but it must wait until its batteries have fully charged before doing so.
